TRI-CITY MEDICAL CENTER
Tri-City Medical Center – Heroic Health
In 1961, few could have imagined the rural flower fields and avocado orchards of Carlsbad, Oceanside, and Vista would grow into the major population and commerce centers they are today. From its beginnings, Tri-City Medical Center has mirrored that growth. Today, Tri-City is a nationally recognized hospital with a world-renowned medical and professional staff, state-of-the art technology and award-winning, compassionate care. All of it together, from our patients who work hard to get and stay healthy, to our employees volunteering in the community, our physicians practicing the art and science of medicine with our Board of Directors leading the way with bold decisions, it’s what we call Heroic Health.
Tri-City Medical Center begins its second 50 years with major enhancements. The Cardiovascular Health Institute is open and providing the most advanced heart care available; from comprehensive heart risk screenings to ‘beating heart’ and minimally invasive open heart surgery. The Orthopaedic and Spine Institute offers concierge-style care coupled with advanced procedures. The hospital has earned numerous national and regional accreditations. Tri-City is a Joint Commission Accredited Hospital meeting the highest national standards for healthcare quality. It is the first nationally accredited Chest Pain Center in San Diego County and is a San Diego County Designated Heart Attack Receiving Center. It has a Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission for Certified Stroke Centers and the Gold “Plus” Award for Stroke Care from the American Heart and Stroke Associations.
Tri-City is home to nationally certified Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehabilitation Centers accredited by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. The American College of Radiology awarded national certification to the radiology center. And, the clinical laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists. The comprehensive cancer program received a three year commendation from the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer, one of only 1400 cancer programs in the nation to be so honored.
In 2008, the hospital opened the Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine with certified physicians, nurses, and technicians. The medical director is the only nationally certified wound specialist in San Diego County and one of only three statewide. The Center was named Wound Care Facility of the Year. It has two locations – one in Vista and the newest located at the Tri-City Health and Wellness Complex in Carlsbad.
Tri-City offers a wide array of quality services ranging from maternity and advanced neonatal care, (the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is the largest in North County and the only NICU with a board-certified neonatologist on duty around the clock), to orthopaedics, neurology, and advanced interventional radiology.
The most exciting recent technological addition is the da Vinci SI® HD Robotic Surgical System with Simulator – the most advanced system available. With its superior vision and dexterity that exceeds the human hand; the robot allows surgeons to do complex procedures like heart bypass surgery through incisions about the size of a dime. Patients benefit from shortened hospital stays, little to no pain, minimal blood loss and speedy returns to normal activities.
In 2009, Tri-City began a bedside bar-coding initiative, which has been shown to reduce medication errors by more than 80%.
Tri-City has the second busiest emergency room in the county treating about 80,000 residents annually. It remains at the forefront in planning for regional disaster response and in recent disasters served as a community medical receiving center for ill and injured patients.
This year the hospital launched Tri-City Health Link, a toll-free phone line with bilingual patient advisors standing by 24 hours a day, seven days a week for physician referrals, registration for classes, groups and events and to answer questions about the many services at the medical center. Tri-City Health Link is truly the community’s around-the-clock connection to health and wellness information and resources.
Tri-City’s mission is to advance the health and wellness of those it serves. The three-year-old Tri-City Wellness Center in Carlsbad approaches health and fitness from a medical perspective. The luxurious facility offers a complete array of health and fitness programs and has been named the best gym in San Diego County three years running on the 10News A*List. On the same campus in Carlsbad, the Medical Office Building houses the second locations of Occupational Medicine and the Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine. Tri-City has two locations for Occupational Medicine because the hospital understands a healthy workforce is necessary to achieve a healthy bottom line.
At the Medical Center’s Oceanside campus, construction is well underway on a 57, 476 square-foot medical office building that will be the new ‘face’ of the hospital and home to the Orthopaedic and Spine Institute as well as physician offices. The state-of-the-art building is scheduled to open in 2013 and is the first step in a Master Plan Study that envisions major re-building of the medical center campus.
Tri-City Medical Center; medical excellence, advanced technology and compassionate care, all close to home – that’s Heroic Health.
