City Government & Services
CORE VALUES
The City of Oceanside values…
Integrity … Diversity …
Excellent customer service
Quality of life … Teamwork
Leadership … Innovation
VISION STATEMENT
The City of Oceanside will be a safe, culturally diverse community that empowers
its citizens to provide an environment that promotes economic development,
supports quality education, fosters the cultural arts and preserves its natural
resources.
MISSION STATEMENT
The City of Oceanside’s mission is to enhance the quality of life through
outstanding service to its diverse community.
PARKS AND RECREATION
The Parks & Recreation Division offers a wide variety of programs and services
for people of all ages through the division’s service areas: Youth Development,
Sports and Athletics, Leisure Services, Aquatics, Senior Services, Special
Events, and Cultural Arts.
The City of Oceanside is committed to providing the highest quality of service
to its residents. Operating and maintaining close to 40 community attractions
from public pools, beaches, parks and community centers, the City of Oceanside
works hard every day to maintain the high level of service
LIBRARY
The Library Department provides municipal library services at six library
outlets: the Civic Center Library, Mission Branch Library, Bookmobile, Adelanté
Mobile, Community Computer Center, and Oceanside READS Literacy Center. With
more than 361,800 books and materials in the collection and 84,800 registered
borrowers, the Oceanside Public Library is a lively hub of activity.
FIRE DEPARTMENT
The Oceanside Fire Department’s eight firehouses provide a presence in every
neighborhood throughout the 41 square miles of the City of Oceanside. The lives
of over 170,000 residents and visitors are protected 24 hours a day, 365 days a
year by over 100 sworn personnel. An additional staff of approximately 30
provides support with the goal of efficiently and effectively serving the
community.
In July of 2008 the Oceanside Fire Department opened new Fire Station #7 on
Mission Ave, between State Route 76 and Foussat Rd. The $8 million dollar,
state-of-the-art facility replaced a temporary facility located nearby on Jones
Rd.
The 18,000 square feet station is designed with architecture that closely
resembles the historic Mission San Luis Rey. The station will initially house a
truck company, a fire-rescue paramedic ambulance, and a battalion chief. In
addition, there is enough room to house an additional engine company.
One of the primary features of the station is its central location. In the first
month alone, response times in the central northern part of Oceanside were
noticeably reduced.
The next major project for the fire department is building a permanent home for
temporary Station 8, which is currently located at the City Operations Center on
Oceanside Blvd. in the east end of the city.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Oceanside Police Department is here to ensure the safety and security of all
people in the City of Oceanside by providing responsive and professional police
service with compassion and concern. Our purpose is to work with the community
to build trust and provide quality service that actively prevents crime, reduces
the fear of crime and promotes safety.
Oceanside, a beach community located 35 miles north of San Diego, has a
population of more than 175,000. The Oceanside Police Department has an
authorized budgeted strength of 212 sworn and 107 professional staff members,
and handles approximately 75,000 calls for service each year.
Our motto, “Service With Pride”, speaks to our focus of quality customer service
and efficient service. We are committed to public safety and to implementing
innovative crime-prevention techniques to ensure a safe and healthy community.
Our proven success is evident in the continuing decline of the City’s crime
rate, which hit a 30-year low in 2007, and in the positive customer satisfaction
survey results.
