The annual Super STEM Saturday (science, technology, engineering, and math) welcomed over 2,000 guests to California State University campus in mid March. This interactive, educational event, held in partnership with The San Diego Science Festival, allowed students and their families to spend the day exploring, learning, and gaining a broader understanding of careers that are available in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math. Highlights of the day included a molecular fashion show, the Civic Youth Orchestra’s recycled instrument concert, and an oceanography exhibit that allowed students to touch, feel, and hold various sea creatures. Over 60 creative and educational booths were on site for students to explore. Thank you to Coastal Adcadmy parent Saijith Jayasignhe, who was instrumental in coordinating Scientist Chats and to Cal State community partners Dean Katherine Kantardjieff, PhD and Jacqueline Trischman, PhD for all of their organizational efforts. Special thanks to Genentech and ViaSat for sponsoring the event. The Classical Academies look forward to an even bigger and better Super STEM Saturday in March 2013!
