|Golf with a Hero Supports Veterans Association of North County|
On Tuesday, June 5th, the Oceanside Chamber will hold its 12th Annual Golf with a Hero event at Marine Memorial Golf Course on Camp Pendleton. Each year, this event provides an opportunity for local business and civic leaders to treat our local Marines and Sailors to a day of golf.
The active duty military participants are invited to play for free, as the cost of their lunch, dinner, green fees and cart are covered by the civilian players.
Not only does the event provide a great day for our participants, it also helps benefit a military related charity. In 2011, the program raised $3,000 for Operation Bigs, a program of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of San Diego. This year's event will help raise funds for Veterans Association of North County (VANC). VANC is an association of more than 30 different veteran organizations serving over 5,000 members. For the first time in the history of North San Diego County, VANC is establishing a new facility for all veterans and their families — the Veterans Association of North County Resource Center in Oceanside.
The military participants have been greatly appreciative of the purpose of this event. "We had a very fun time and were very pleased to see the support the community of Oceanside showed towards the military. Glad that money was raised for such an important cause", said Maj. Mark Sauer after last year's event.
For those that want to support the event but don't play golf, "there are numerous sponsorship opportunities available for companies that are looking for great a branding opportunity or are interested in setting up a table to interact with the golfers", said Scott Ashton, Sales and Marketing Director for the Oceanside Chamber.
