Patient survey recognizes Scripps Coastal and Scripps Clinic for primary care services
SAN DIEGO – Patients have rated Scripps Coastal Medical Group and Scripps Clinic Medical Group No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in San Diego County for the quality of primary care services. In addition to the groups’ regional rankings, Scripps Coastal ranked No.2 in the state, with Scripps Clinic ranking No. 9.
For the past four years, the Patient Assessment Survey by the California Cooperative Healthcare Reporting Initiative (CCHRI) has ranked Scripps Coastal and Scripps Clinic among the top three medical groups in the San Diego region. The assessment rates a variety of areas including the Scripps medical groups’ overall health care services, primary care physicians and specialty care.
“This ranking reaffirms our mission: provide the highest quality, patient-oriented care in an atmosphere that promotes health and well-being,” said Kevin Hirsch, MD, president of Scripps Coastal Medical Group. “The physician–patient relationship is Scripps Coastal Medical Group’s highest priority, and I think the San Diego community acknowledges and appreciates that.”
The CCHRI is a statewide collaborative of health plans, provider organizations and purchasers, which conducts an annual survey to assess commercial HMO and point of service patient experiences with the care delivered by their medical groups. The results, based on 2011 data, are used by physician groups for quality improvement, by consumers for physician selection and by health plans for determining quality-based payments.
“Our patients expect the highest quality care when they come to Scripps Clinic,” said Dan Dworsky, MD, executive medical director of Scripps Clinic Medical Group. “It is our commitment to meet these expectations – every patient, every visit.”
The key performance domains assessed in the Patient Assessment Survey include:
· Overall ratings of all health care
· Rating of primary care physician
· Rating of specialist and access to care
· Physician communication (doctor-patient interactions)
· Patient access to care (primary and specialty, non-urgent and urgent)
· Coordination of care
· Office staff
