Citi Donates $10,000 to Support Financial Literacy in the Classroom



Spearheading a collaborative effort to help young people understand the responsibility of managing finances, Citi Community Development has awarded a $10,000 grant to The Classical Academies, an organization of award- winning California public charter schools serving north San Diego County.


This Financial Capability/Asset Building Program will provide Classical Academy students in grades 6-12, employees, and parents with a series of financial literacy learning opportunities that include educational workshops in finance, banking, investments, and accounting. Field expert guest speakers and workshop facilitators will articulate of the importance financial responsibility and managing disposable income. Local business owners will share their experience and engage students in the classroom.

Financial Literacy works with economically disadvantaged families and individuals to educate them about their financial affairs so they can make the best financial decisions and be empowered to make lasting life changes. Through a series of workshops, outreach events, and information fairs, this program will reach hundreds of local residents through the classroom, encouraging students to initiate asset-building programs.

The Classical Academies are WASC accredited California public charter schools that have been serving north San Diego County since 1999. With over 2500 students enrolled at four campuses, the schools “partner with parents” to provide a flexible, rigorous academic program that prepares students for college, career, and citizenship.
