SACRAMENTO – The Assembly Governmental Organization Committee has approved Senate Bill 465 by Senator Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) that would ensure local governments continue to receive funding for offsite emergency response planning, training, and exercises related to the shuttered San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS). The bill will head next to the Assembly Appropriations Committee for its consideration.

Watch out for overhead electric lines
  • Never approach or touch electric lines. A shock could cause severe injury or death.
  • Keep yourself, other people and any objects you’re touching at least 10 feet clear of overhead electric lines. Many things can conduct electricity, such as tools, machinery, equipment, scaffolding, metal ladders, fruit- picking poles, antennas, satellite dishes, pool skimmer handles and boat masts.

​SACRAMENTO – The Assembly Business and Professions Committee today approved Senate Bill 679 by Senator Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) that would streamline the process for licensed professional clinical counselors (LPCCs), marriage and family therapists (LMFTs), and clinical social workers (LCSWs) in other states to become licensed in California. Having previously earned unanimous support in the Senate, SB 679 will head next to the Assembly Appropriations Committee for its consideration.

Coast Highway.  Enjoy this colorful and exhilarating journey into the world of African rhythms, songs, and stories. Children and family audiences can participate in this lively presentation as either part of the drum circle with CHAZZ, African drumming extraordinaire, or as part of dance troop with gifted choreographer Teresa. This fun, interactive event is free, for kids of all ages, and is sponsored by the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library. 2018 OCEANSIDE WATER QUALITY REPORT

The City of Oceanside is pleased to announce the release of its 2018 Water Quality Report.  This report shows that the City system continues to meet or exceed all state and federal drinking water standards. City staff collects water quality samples to test for over 90 different substances throughout the year to ensure that the City’s drinking water meets the highest standards for quality and safety.  Samples from drinking water plants and in the City’s distribution system were analyzed and reported in the 2018 Water Quality Report.  “Oceanside’s drinking water is closely monitored to ensure the highest quality of water is delivered to our customers,” said Water Utilities Director Cari Dale.  “Our highest priority is delivering safe and reliable water.” ​

CITY OF OCEANSIDE WATER UTILITIES TO RECEIVE $1.5 MILLION IN GRANT FUNDING

The City of Oceanside is pleased to announce that it will receive $1.5 Million in funding from the Bureau of Reclamation’s WaterSMART Water and Energy Efficiency Grant, subject to Federal appropriations.  The funding will be used to construct Phase 1 of a new Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) network, including retrofitting 21,689 existing meters and integrating the AMI system with the existing customer interface platform.  Once the project is complete, 49% of the City’s meters will be connected to the AMI network.  The AMI system will provide real-time information to customers about leaks, breaks, and other unusual consumption patterns. ​

The Cox Conserves Heroes program honors environmental volunteers who create, preserve or enhance shared outdoor spaces in their local communities. One California Cox Conserve Hero will designate a $10,000 grant to the environmental nonprofit of their choice, given by the James M. Cox Foundation, the Cox-affiliated foundation. The James M. Cox Foundation will also award $50,000 to the national winner’s nonprofit of choice. ​

In a first for San Diego County, physicians at Scripps Green Hospital have used a warm perfusion transportation system to bring a donated liver to La Jolla where they implanted the organ into a 36-year-old Las Vegas police officer who had been on the transplant waiting list for more than nine months.
