Green Oceanside and San Diego Food System Alliance Help Maximize Weekly Groceries While Minimizing Food Waste Within San Diego County, 500,000 tons of food end up in the landfill every year, while one pound of food creates the same emissions as 20% of the energy used daily in an average household. This waste of edible food represents loss of water, energy, and labor resources used to grow and transport this needed food. Many families are facing hunger for the first time as they navigate a global pandemic. With many families already facing food insecurity, the Green Oceanside team is providing tools and resources on maximizing food to last for the overall health and sustainability of the community

Our consultant (GHD) was hired to perform a preliminary engineering evaluation and feasibility study to consider options for beach sand replenishment and/or retention devices to stabilize and enhance the beach widths in the City. GHD has begun the review and analysis of data and relevant global project examples and has developed six preliminary concepts to carry forward in the feasibility study. The goal of the study is to identify a beach replenishment/retention strategy that is environmentally sensitive, financially feasible and has a reasonable chance of being approved through the regulatory permitting process.

We’ll also discuss why so many Americans don’t vote and how to get registered.
