MiraCosta College Accepting Applications for Independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee9/15/2020
The Board of Trustees of the MiraCosta Community College District is seeking qualified, interested individuals to serve on a committee of community leaders, who will operate as the Independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (ICBOC) for the implementation of the district’s Measure MM college facilities bond program.
Construction includes new Student Services buildings for the San Elijo and Community Learning Center campuses and new athletic field at the Oceanside Campus. Students and teachers may be engaged in online learning for now, but construction projects underway now throughout the MiraCosta Community College District are ensuring state-of-the-art facilities are ready when students are able to return to campus.
MiraCosta College’s fall 2020 late-start classes begin the weeks of September 7 and October 19, with hundreds of classes in a range of subjects that conclude at the same time as “regular” courses. Late-start classes are offered with a primarily online course schedule. Now is the time to work toward a degree or certificate, get started in the workplace, transfer to a four-year university, enroll for personal enrichment, professional growth, or to gain a new skill. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced 26 schools nationally have been chosen, so far, to participate in the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Collegiate Training Initiative (UAS-CTI); three of these colleges are MiraCosta College, Palomar College, and Southwestern College. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has selected MiraCosta College’s Technology Career Institute (TCI) Unmanned Systems 500-hour program.
MiraCosta College’s fall 2020 classes begin, Monday, August 24, with a robust selection of FREE online continuing education courses. All classes provide students with the textbooks and materials needed for the course at no cost to the students. Additionally, ample resources are available to support students through their academic journey to career success.

MiraCosta Community College District maintains the highest credit ratings from both Moody’s Investors Services (Moody’s) and Standard & Poor’s Global (S&P). Moody’s and S&P assigned MiraCosta College AAA ratings for a second time—the same ratings earned in 2017.

MiraCosta College and the City of Oceanside are teaming up on a new initiative allowing residents to enroll in tuition-free, MiraCosta Community Education & Workforce Development job-training programs for the skills and know-how needed for in-demand trades at Oceanside businesses. The Hire Local initiative was launched July 6 and classes begin with the new fall semester. MiraCosta College programs that are part of Hire Local are Biomedical Equipment Technology, Welding, Computer Numeric Control (CNC), Engineering Technician, Machinist Technology, Electronic Assembly Technician, and Phlebotomy.
Partnership with MiraCosta College helps Oceanside residents upskill and earn tuition-free certificates through December, 2020 (Oceanside, CA –July 7, 2020) The City of Oceanside announced the launch of its Hire Local initiative, designed to stimulate economic vitality for local residents and businesses through a combination of Incentives, Development, Education, and Access (IDEA).Through this initiative, the City is working to bridge the gap between in-demand jobs and resident readiness to accelerate professional and business growth and create an economic multiplier for the City.
Jovanhy Martinez is committed to hard work, and it shows. A defender for the men’s soccer team, who graduated in May with a 3.96 GPA in Mechanical Engineering, Martinez was recently named MiraCosta College’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year. “It’s a huge honor,” Jovanhy says. “I wasn’t expecting it.”
Vanessa Bustamante has dedicated her career to supporting student involvement since she was introduced to an array of campus organizations that helped her thrive as a student at Cal State Northridge more than a decade ago. Now the Interim Program Manager for Student Success and Support Programs at MiraCosta College, Bustamante’s efforts have been recognized with the prestigious Madrina Award from the Latina Leadership Network of the California Community Colleges for her tireless work in promoting the culture, activism, and advocacy of the Latinx/Chicanx community, while facilitating the pursuit of a higher education.
MiraCosta College earned top honors from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR), the largest organization in the world that represents marketing and public relations professionals at community and technical colleges and from the statewide Community College Public Relations Organization (CCPRO).

Now that restaurants are able to open for inside service, the new OSHA COVID-19 guidelines require dishwashers to use full face coverings. MiraCosta College is offering restaurants the opportunity to acquire face shields for a donation of $7 per shield. All funds generated for these shields will go directly to the purchase of supplies and equipment for the students in our Engineering Tech program.

Anxiety. Fear. Reunion. Alienation. Absence. Excitement. How does a veteran cope with returning home from deployment? What happens to their families? How has life changed? These were the questions MiraCosta College theatre director Tracy Williams was asking to prepare for the original production, Coming Home.
MiraCosta College is honored to celebrate with our first-ever virtual commencement ceremony to be held on Friday, May 22, 2020, at 5 p.m. With obvious differences from a traditional ceremony, the college is committed to recognizing the achievements of our students and we will strive to make the virtual event a memorable one that enables graduates to remotely share this monumental achievement with family, friends, and the academic community. This year's ceremony will include 23 MiraCostans receiving Bachelor’s Degrees in Biomanufacturing. The oldest student petitioning for a degree or certificate will be 76 on commencement day and the youngest is 17. Graduates were mailed a diploma cover and MiraCosta College Alumni pin prior to the virtual ceremony. Students are encouraged to take photos and videos celebrating their hard work and share them on social media using #MCCGrad2020.
Three MiraCosta College Students Awarded Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarships4/27/2020
Three MiraCosta College students have been selected to receive the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship that pays up to $40,000 for tuition, books, and housing annually for up to three years, while they secure their bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university.
MiraCosta College students, whose financial challenges are worsening because of the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on the economy, will soon share more than $5.5 million provided through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
MiraCosta College has completed construction and close-out activities for the renovation of Building 500 at the San Elijo Campus. The general classroom building was reconfigured to provide new computer labs, active-learning classrooms, and building-wide upgrades.
MiraCosta College could soon be manufacturing thousands of face masks, hundreds of face shields, and scores of decontamination boxes as part of a statewide effort to ramp up production of personal protective devices (PPEs) in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MiraCosta College professors Sean Davis and Curry Mitchell have created a new podcast that places students and faculty into dialogue with each other about issues impacting teaching and learning in community colleges.
On Monday, March 30, after a two week Spring Break, MiraCosta College students return to instruction by way of an online or remote modality. This may include Canvas, video/phone conferencing, email, and other options to teach and learn remotely.
