The MiraCosta College Theatre Department presents All My Sons by Arthur Miller. The play opens April 26 at the MiraCosta College Theatre, located at 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. Eric Bishop will direct. How far are you willing to go for the American dream? Set in post-World War II, Arthur Miller’s landmark drama examines the relationships between fathers and sons and the price of living the “American dream.” An explosive secret threatens to tear the family apart in this powerful play about the conflict between business ethics and taking responsibility for one’s actions. Winner of the first Tony Award and the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best New Play, All My Sons established Miller as a leading voice in the American theatre. Based on a true story.
“This is the third time I have worked on this play—once as an actor and twice as a director. I am consistently reminded how beautifully crafted this play is in structure, language, and universal themes,” explains Bishop. “What is especially relevant to me is the notion that we have a responsibility towards one another to take care of each other. This responsibility is part of our humanity. Sadly, it can get lost in business, bias, and the rhetoric of politics. Seventy years later, we haven’t learned that lesson yet.” Performance dates are scheduled for April 26, 27, May 2, 3, and 4, at 7:30 p.m. and April 27, 28, May 4, and 5, at 2 p.m. General admission is $16; seniors/staff, $13; students, $11. A preview performance is scheduled for April 25 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the preview performance are $11 for all seats. Children under the age of 5 are not admitted to the theatre. This production will be in a black box configuration in the new Theatre Studio with limited general seating. Tickets are available online at www.miracosta.edu/buytix or by calling the MiraCosta College Box Office at 760.795.6815.
