Most parents of school-aged kids are well aware that COVID and its accompanying policy changes have greatly impacted our children’s education. A majority of schools have transitioned to online learning – which has proven to be challenging for a great many kids. It’s not always easy for teachers to connect with and cater to the individual needs of every student, even under normal circumstances, and it’s far more challenging for students to feel connected to their teachers in this environment as well. Recent studies have shown the negative impact on many aspects of our children’s education, but one subject stands out above the rest: math. Renaissance Learning - a global leader in research, assessment, and learning analytics - recently released a study illuminating the negative impact of COVID and its accompanying policy changes on education. The findings are dramatic and substantial when it comes to math achievement. Renaissance estimates that more students will need intervention or other additional support beyond their normal classroom instruction in order to catch up to grade-level standards. Because so many students across the board are falling behind in math, they also conclude that “additional strain will be placed on school intervention resources, which may be more challenged than ever in 2020-2021.” It’s a lot to think about, especially when so many other aspects of life have been disrupted by the pandemic. So what is a parent to do? Here at Mathnasium of Oceanside, we offer instruction face-to-face, either in our learning center or online through our virtual @Home experience. We follow all federal, state, and local protocols and have worked with local students continuously throughout the pandemic. Our expert instructors start by pinpointing each individual child’s learning needs through a personalized assessment, which is then used to develop a learning plan that’s unique to each student. The Mathnasium Method™ of teaching helps students understand concepts faster and easier than a “one-size-fits-all” curriculum, and as many Mathnasium kids will attest, it can also make learning math fun. Mathnasium’s customized learning plans are proven to improve grades and help students catch up, keep up, and stay ahead. Meet our team of math experts here! Our services were useful normal circumstances, but now especially so during the extraordinary times in which we find ourselves. If your child is one of many who have struggled in these times, call (760-733-6096 ) or email us to learn more about our complimentary assessments and customized learning plans! We hope to hear from you soon. Below are two different activities (and their answer keys) for you to download and do with your child. These fun and simple math exercises keep young minds engaged and help spark an interest in math. We challenge parents to do the problems as well before checking the key.
