Every year in San Diego County, senior citizens are scammed out of millions of dollars by bad actors who prey on vulnerability and the trusting nature of our elders. by Cathy Ellis
Everyone wants to stay home and avoid moving to one of those nursing homes or assisted living facilities and my mom and my husband and I feel the same way. You will know when it is the right time for you or a loved one when the household tasks are becoming overwhelming, you are not eating properly and basically you are feeling pretty isolated depending on other people to help you with most of your routine tasks. I have seen people who were living on frozen dinners, sitting in the same chair every day and basically doing nothing, but watch television MOVE TO ASSISTED LIVING and become active members of society again. Senior Living years really can be golden years for many in senior communities.
Many seniors and families even look for especially active communities for their new Independent Living or Assisted Living! Of course, living at home seems like a great deal for seniors, and most expect to stay there as long as possible. But, living without regular social interaction and activity can result in depression and unnecessarily poor health. Obviously, health and physical capabilities are limiting to many seniors, but even frail individuals can benefit from, and enjoy, interaction with others in games, art, music and many forms of social fun. Actually, some of the most impressive improvements in social interaction and overall satisfaction come from joining others at meal time for small talk and news. |
