Baby Boomers, the generation born between 1946 and 1964 During the baby boom, 76 million Americans were born. I was born in 1961, I am a younger boomer married to an older boomer. There are major differences in the life experiences of Baby Boomers depending on which end of the spectrum that you grew up in from being a teenager during The Beatles, Woodstock-Vietnam War era to the disco-heavy metal transition from Jimmy Carter to The Ronald Reagan Era, but everyone will agree that “The Baby Boomers” are a rare breed that grew up in a very special time. Baby boomers had no hand held electronics except for an AM transistor radio, we played outside until dark, we walked to school, we grew up with a handful of television channels and we drank from the garden hose! Justice Gilbert Nares could be declared an illustrious son of Oceanside. For almost 40 years, Nares has developed an outstanding career as a judge, including 25 years as justice in the California Court of Appeal. Nares grew up in Oceanside, attended Laurel Elementary, graduated from Oceanside High School, and later received his bachelor’s and his law degree from the University of San Diego. Justice Nares took a moment to reflect on his time in the courts, but most of all, on his life growing up in Oceanside. by Isabella Janovick, Marketing Manager, Anacomp Inc.
There are three basic parts that make up a loan file which are the Loan Number, Sections and Documents. Within the Sections there is a further division of 8 different tabs. The tabs hold the various documents such as Mortgage Documents, Trailing Documents and Imaged Documents. Loan Number A loan number is assigned to every loan file. This number is used to reference and track the file for the life of the loan, or until it is sold to a second mortgage company, where it is assigned a new loan number. The loan number can consist of a string of numbers or a combination of numeric and alpha characters. They average anywhere from six to ten characters. This number is one of the most important pieces of information on a loan, distinguishing it from other loans. When back to school commercials start popping up on TV, my kids freak out! They know summer is coming to end. I, on the other hand, do a little happy dance. Back to routine! Back to uninterrupted workdays! But the start of school does bring back the one task I do dread- School Lunch Packing! But this year lunch packing is quite literally “In The Bag!” So here are my 6 tips for successful school lunch packing.
1) Pack what you know your kids will eat. Seems very obvious, but in an effort to pack a healthy lunch, we often times pack a lunch they won’t even eat. Remember healthy lunches are only healthy if…the food is eaten. So packing that PB&J everyday it is ok! And the less food kids toss; the less they waste. by Scott Ashton, Oceanside Living Magazine
In their efforts to save money on water and play their part in conservation efforts Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church has turned much of their property into an inviting venue for the community. The two-fold effort includes a large xeriscape project in the front of the church along with a community garden on the back of the property. According to Pastor Allen Kolkman the front of the church used to be just grass, which was very costly to water, and was hard to keep green. Members of the church collaborated with a local landscape company to create a beautiful front yard, highlighted by dozens of plants along with walking paths inviting the neighbors in for a stroll.
The common name for the neighborhood east of Interstate 5 and north of Mission Avenue is “Eastside.” Today this would puzzle many people because Oceanside city limits go much farther east than the Eastside neighborhood. However, after the turn of the century when the area was being developed and populated, this neighborhood was near the most eastern city limits. Families from Mexico who came to Oceanside in the 1910s and 1920s settled in Eastside, which included the subdivisions of Mingus & Overman, Reece, Spencer, Higgins & Puls. Most of the early residents were laborers who worked in the fields of the San Luis Rey Valley and the Rancho Santa Margarita (now Camp Pendleton). by Frank Murch, Signs for San Diego
North County San Diego business owners know that vehicle graphics make the phone ring. Vehicle graphics like door magnets, decals, vanity graphics, stripes, partial wraps and full wraps are business tools. Signs for San Diego has done vehicle graphic packages for vans, trucks, boats, motorcycles, tanks, Humvees, enclosed trailers, food wagons and cars. Along the way, we have learned a few reasons why you absolutely must have vehicle graphics and a number of reasons that will surprise you. Number One: Exposure. Without question the number one reason to get vehicle graphics on your ride is it is a cheap form of promotion. It makes the phone ring. On California highways, in parking lots and on all streets the exposure is tremendous. It is also a form of endorsement from your customers to their neighbors. While making impressions of the Del Mar Race crowd on opening day is great, it is very easy to get 10,000 views in a normal day while delivering and servicing your customers. by Marva Bledsoe, Business & Community Political Action Committee (BACPAC)
“Prop 13” is very near and dear to California property owners. Since its passage in 1978, talk of change to the law consistently raises the ire of state tax payers. Jeff Wyly from Merdian, a nationwide political consulting and public affairs firm, recently reported to the Chamber’s Emerging Issues Committee that the idea of a “split roll property tax” change to “Prop 13” is again under discussion in committee at the state legislature. What does a “split roll property tax” mean? by Kristi Hawthorne (Published in Oceanside Living Magazine)
Theresia Heyden has led an interesting, albeit difficult life, but lives by the adage, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” At age 91, Theresia has a sharp mind along with a sharp wit. She shares stories of her adventurous travels and remembers with great detail the people she has met along the way. Born in Germany in 1923, Theresia was formerly trained as a nurse practitioner. Her life, however, took a tragic turn when as a young woman the home her family owned since 1173 was occupied by the Russians during World War II. She was held as a prisoner of war in Russia and forced to work in a coal mine for three years. By Amber Ter-Vrugt, Director Community Relations Scripps Health

Although, after our most recent military shooting, in Chattanooga, which resulted in the loss of five service members, there is one last thing I ask and encourage every business owner in Oceanside to do – and that is to fly an American Flag. by Marva Bledsoe, Business and Community Political Action Committee (BACPAC)
As California continues to face an unprecedented drought, a proposed Oceanside mixed-use residential development is touting its net zero impact on the City’s water usage. The membership of the Oceanside Chamber’s Emerging Issues Committee was recently reintroduced to the Villa Storia, a planned new neighborhood located at Highway 76 and Mission near the San Luis Rey Mission. By participating in the City’s Purple Pipe Project, Villa Storia will help fund the program to provide the necessary infrastructure to replace the potable water now being used at sites such as El Corazon and “Goat Hill” with reclaimed water. Villa Storia is also reducing water usage at a number City facilities and public buildings by funding the installation of low-flow toilets and touchless faucets. These efforts will result in reduced water use around the city so that the 380 units at Villa Storia having no net increase on City water supplies. |
