 Over the past twenty years thousands of local entrepreneurs and business owners have visited The North San Diego Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to help them start, manage and grow their businesses. I was one of those entrepreneurs and the information and support I received was priceless. I am now celebrating a decade in business. The SBDC consultants have been with me and thousands of small business owners every step of the way. There is no cost to entrepreneurs and small business owners for private one-on-one business advising and most of the training and resources available to them.

The City of Oceanside has taken a positive step toward improving housing affordability in the downtown Oceanside district. In August, the Oceanside City Council adopted recommendations from City staff and the Downtown Advisory Committee to remove density caps on residential projects that are part of mixed-used developments in the Downtown District. The previous zoning ordinance allowed for a maximum of 43 dwelling units per acre. The removal of the density cap will allow for smaller, more affordable units, while maintaining all other development requirements including height, setbacks and parking.  By Haley Wonsley
Chair, Oceanside Young Professionals Network From initiatives that aim to save Oceanside beach sand to the thriving farm-to-table scene, there is always a new topic to learn about in our growing city. Over the past year, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce has launched a program called the Oceanside Young Professionals Network (OYPN). The OYPN is designed to connect young professionals with each other through fun networking and event opportunities and also connect them to the issues that affect us most, professionally and personally.  You may have heard the name or seen an article mentioning a new type of fitness program and wondered, “What is Medical Integration?” Medical Integration (MI), at its foundation, is small-group fitness training developed from evidence based research and led by nationally certified personal trainers with specialized certifications. This enables them to modify workouts for individual needs. It is the missing link between healthcare and fitness and only found at Tri-City Wellness & Fitness Center.
 Hidden, just off I-5 in Oceanside, is an innocuous cluster of white brick business units, the area is a hive of activity; a neon vested man with a baton waves and directs me into my parking spot, as cars to and fro from this seemingly ordinary strip. A thrift shop, cafe, kitchen and several office units sit neatly side by side. Boxes are wielded out of the doors brimming with ripened fruit, canned goods and food packets, while a line of eager people - seniors and children wraps around the facade.
 Oceanside High School has a long legacy of producing sports legends, entertainers, along with judges, businessmen and women, and civic leaders. Young people are our future and there are many who possess talents and attributes to lead the next generation. Tatyana Wells is a perfect example, a young woman who is poised and ready for her future. She is enrolled in AVID (Advanced Via Independent Determination) a program that puts students on a path to college and career success. Her favorite subjects include social studies, math, and literature.
