On an early morning in March, Chamber Member, Diane Record was out for her morning walk when she saw two white dogs running loose in her neighborhood. They were jumping up and down at a white poodle in a window at a home just ahead of her. Seconds later, the dogs confronted Diane, knocked her over and began biting her.
Diane screamed and her brave neighbor Jim Prete came running out. He selflessly intervened by pulling the dogs off her. Diane was able to walk to her home and call 911. In the meantime, dogs began attacking Jim, biting his arms and legs and neck.
"Jim is truly a hero”, said Diane. “He heard me screaming and ran outside to help. If he didn't pull the dogs off me, I would not be alive today. Few people would risk their lives to save a stranger. I am so grateful for his bravery. Words can't express how much I appreciate what he did to save my life."
Jim and Diane were both airlifted to Scripps Memorial Hospital and Diane’s injuries required surgery. While both neighbors sustained serious injuries, Jim’s bravery ensured that they are both still with us today. Kudos to Jim Prete, a true neighborhood hero!
