By Scott Ashton Angel Printing was one of the first businesses to open an office in the Ocean Ranch Corporate Centre. A business that began in the home of Vladimir Medvinsky several years earlier, Angel Printing now services over 3,000 customers nationally and internationally. Medvinsky started as a graphic designer in the early 1990's, managing graphic and print projects for a variety of clients. One of Angel Printing's first customers, the City of Encinitas, is still a customer 20 years later. Three times per year, Angel Printing designs and oversees the production and mailing of the Encinitas Recreation Guide, a publication reaching approximately 30,000 residents. According to Medvinsky, managing a project of this caliber early on in his career helped Angel Printing establish credibility that attracted other customers. In 2001, Medvinsky moved into the printing side of the business with a small digital press in his home, mainly printing business cards, post cards and flyers for clients. After taking on an employee, the business started to grow quickly. After a short time of subleasing space from one of his customers, Medvinsky bought a 3000 square foot building in Ocean Ranch, where his business has resided for nearly 10 years.
While serving many clients in Oceanside and throughout San Diego County, a strong web presence through AngelPrint.com and AngelPrint.net has allowed the business to expand its presence beyond the local market. AngelPrint.net is a retail site which allows customers to get price quotes for digital printing projects, as well as customize and order their projects online 24/7. One of Angel Printing's niche markets is "short run" books, jobs that Medvinsky says many other printers do not have the experience to produce adequately. The short runs are typically 100 to 1500 books which are printed for self publishers or as pre-release "galley copies” for larger publishers. While a typical turnaround for these books is 7-10 days, Medvinsky says they have turned around book orders as quickly as one day. For larger book runs, Angel Printing can still help their clients through their relationships with larger print partners. Angel Printing currently has seven full time employees and uses the services of numerous subcontractors for services ranging from specialized graphic design to production. Some of Angel Printing's largest clients include MiraCosta College, Hotdog on a Stick, the Caroll Shelby Foundation and the United States Marine Corps. According to Mevinsky, Angel Printing is one of the top printing resources for the USMC and numerous other clients. Medvinsky describes his business as "customer-centric”, managing every detail of their clients’ projects, from concept to completion. Customer service has been instrumental in their success. Angel Printing’s motto is "If you succeed, we succeed". Medvinsky attributes much of his company's success to being innovative and staying on the leading edge of technology. Along those lines, Medvinsky is working toward expanding his business to serve franchises, offering them customized storefronts where their franchisees can order printed materials such as direct mail, business cards and flyers from online templates. In challenging economic times when many print shops have closed, creating a very competitive environment, Angel Printing has found a way to succeed. “I’m stubborn”, said Medvinsky. “I refuse to fail. Our employees families and customers rely on our business.” Angel Printing has actively given back to the community through sponsorships of local sports organizations, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and SurfAid International.
