At the November 2nd meeting of the Oceanside City Council, The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce was named the Veteran Non-Profit Organization of the Year. Oceanside City Councilmember Jerry Kern, along with Assemblymember Rocky Chavez, and Congressman Darrell Issa made presentations to the Chamber in honor of its work in supporting local and national veterans organizations.
Congressman Issa and Councilmember Kern presented certificates of recognition to Chamber staff members Scott Ashton and Kristi Hawthorne.
A certificate was also presented by Assemblymember Chavez, who served as Camp Pendleton’s liaison to the Oceanside Chamber in the late 1990’s. Chavez spoke of the early days of the Chamber’s Military Affairs Committee and commended the organization for its growth in serving the military community.
Chuck Atkinson, one of the founders of the Veteran’s Association of North County, nominated the Chamber for this award. The Chamber has been a strong advocate for veterans organizations by promoting their causes and providing them with a platform to gain exposure for their work.
“It is truly an honor for the Chamber to be recognized for its work in supporting our military community,” said Ashton, the Chamber’s VP of Business Development and incoming CEO.
