The Oceanside Art Walk is growing and becoming bigger and better than ever before. The theme for the June 5th Art Walk is "Ode to Oceanside" featuring artists that represent our favorite city. Oceanside Art Walk began in August 2015 with over 21 venues in downtown Oceanside participating. Over the months, venues have traded in and out and artists have come and gone as well. However the art has remained alive and strong and the Art Walk has worked towards its never ending goal of cultivating the culture of art throughout the city. Ode to Oceanside brings the Art Walk back to its roots and truly allows the art to connect to the city, which is fitting for this stage in the Art Walk’s life. Downtown Oceanside is the hub of this city and that is where our growing art scene needs to be fostered, loved and appreciated. There is no better way to remind the city of this art bounty in our back yard than dedicating an entire night to the beauty that surrounds Oceanside every day in the sea, mountains, murals, streets, people, architecture and more. This stage in the Art Walk’s life is continued growth, which is happening in more than just the visual art department. One of the biggest draws of the evening is the different types of performing art in addition to the mediums of visual art. Dancers perform, Ed Coonce read monologues in May, Robin Spalding spoke and unveiled art in March, and this is all in addition to the rocking bands that line the streets of downtown. In June there will be at least six live bands along the street and inside venues during the evening. The sound of music accompanying the visually stunning works leaves "Art Walkers" senses tingling for more. Art Walk will celebrate its One Year Anniversary in August when the theme will be "Through a Lens Artly." However, this month is when the Art Walk truly celebrates the town it loves and resides in. Remember that the festivities run from 6:00-9:00 on Friday June 5th and some venues host light refreshments while all of them host fun and great art. Don’t forget to pick up a map at any location so you can track where you have been and make sure you see everything in this wonderful "Ode to Oceanside."
