Beach Handball is a sport discipline of the Olympic sport – Team Handball. Beach Handball is similar to water polo on sand. The objective is to throw a ball into a goal passed a goal keeper. There are 4 sand players attacking and 3 sand players defending. It is fast moving, high scoring and spectator friendly.
Dennis Berkholtz, Director, USA Beach Handball, and the producer of the Championship commented, “We are looking forward to working with the people of Oceanside and hosting our friends from the American Continents. We should have 18 to 20 teams showcasing our sport in the SOCAL region.”
The competition will take place on the beaches near the Harbor and at the Pier Amphitheater which will be filled with sand to create a fun filled spectator friendly arena. The semi-finals on Saturday and the finals on Sunday will be broadcast live on Eleven Sports, a national sports network available in 55 million homes with 7 million subscribers. All the games will be live streamed.
Adult ticket prices at the Amphitheater for general admission will be $10 on Thursday and Friday and $20 on Saturday and Sunday. Children will have free access on Thursday and Friday.
Berkholtz stated, “One of our production goals is to work closing with the entire Oceanside community generating opportunities for individuals and businesses to be involved. In that regard we have programs available for corporations to Sponsor a Team and or to become a Community Partner in the Championship.”
USA Beach Handball plans to bring a similar event to Oceanside featuring Beach teams from Asia in 2019 and Europe in 2020. Contact Dennis Berkholtz for more information
