 MiraCosta College’s fall 2020 late-start classes begin the weeks of September 7 and October 19, with hundreds of classes in a range of subjects that conclude at the same time as “regular” courses. Late-start classes are offered with a primarily online course schedule. The Oceanside Public Library, in partnership with California Humanities’ Library Innovation Lab, is proud to present Yōkoso: An Online Celebration of Japanese Culture. The Library Innovation Lab empowers and enables libraries to design and implement new public humanities projects that engage underserved immigrant groups in California. From Monday, September 14 to Friday, September 18, 2020, the Oceanside Public Library will implement a week-long Japanese cultural program series called, Yōkoso, or “Welcome!” in Japanese. Each day the Library will host a Japanese storytime and all-ages special events on Zoom, Instagram, or YouTube.

 The Friends of the Oceanside Public Library will begin holding drive-through book sales starting on August 25. The sales will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., behind the Civic Center Library at 602 Civic Center Drive.
 The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced 26 schools nationally have been chosen, so far, to participate in the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Collegiate Training Initiative (UAS-CTI); three of these colleges are MiraCosta College, Palomar College, and Southwestern College. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has selected MiraCosta College’s Technology Career Institute (TCI) Unmanned Systems 500-hour program.

Tri-City Medical Center’s program provides free custom wigs to women undergoing chemotherapy OCEANSIDE, Calif. (August 18, 2020) — Tri-City Hospital Foundation today has called on community support to continue funding a program providing wigs – and hope – to patients battling cancer at Tri-City Medical Center. The Wigs For Hope program provides free custom-fitted wigs to women undergoing chemotherapy, but the program’s funding has unfortunately ended due to circumstances out of the Foundation or Medical Center’s control. To keep this life-changing program going, Tri-City Hospital Foundation launched a Facebook Fundraiser to crowdfund donations with a very attainable goal of $8,500. Every dollar raised will go directly to continuing the Wigs For Hope program.
As you may have already seen on the news all weekend and this morning, due to a prolonged heat wave driving up electricity demand, the California Independent System Operator (ISO), which manages the state’s electric power grid, issued a Flex Alert August 16th - August 19th.
