SACRAMENTO – In the wake of the tragic bluff collapse in Encinitas earlier this month that took the lives of three people, Senator Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) announced today that she supports the efforts of U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris, and U.S. Representative Mike Levin, to request the White House budget office approve funding that would help stabilize local bluffs. In a separate letter, Senator Bates also asks the California Coastal Commission to take steps that will help stabilize California’s bluffs and save lives.

Governor to Consider Sen. Bates’ Bill to Screen All Sexually Violent Predators Before Release8/23/2019
SACRAMENTO – Governor Newsom will soon decide the fate of Senate Bill 141 by Senator Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) that would improve the safety of California’s communities by requiring all inmates convicted of a sexually violent offense to be administered a comprehensive risk assessment before their parole hearing. The State Senate approved the bill today while the State Assembly approved it with minor amendments on August 12th.
SAN DIEGO – Scripps Health has become the first health system in San Diego County to launch a specialty care transport program for adults that is focused on the continuum of care of some of the sickest patients at Scripps hospitals.
MiraCosta College’s latest construction project comes complete with a green roof and vertical garden adorned with succulents and solar panels producing energy stored in a row of batteries to illuminate the structure at night. Built by students in the Materials and Construction course and based on plans developed by the Architectural Design class, the Sustainable Design Structure sits along a pathway between the Theatre and Administration Building at the Oceanside Campus and serves as a model of environmentally sensitive engineering.

The Library will be offering a thirteen-week Citizenship Class, in order for eligible students to prepare for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) Naturalization Test. Classes will be held at the Civic Center Library in the second-floor Foundation Room on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m., beginning September 4. In this class, students will learn about U.S. history and government and prepare for the citizenship interview. Classes will be taught by volunteer teachers who have classroom experience and training specific to the topic.
The Frontwave Credit Union O’side Turkey Trot and the Move Your Feet Before You Eat® Foundation are proud to announce the kick off of their Miles of Smiles program at the OUSD. 8 Schools are participating this year. Students who participate in the Miles of Smiles program receive Certificates of Recognition for the Miles they run and a pair of custom Miles of Smiles shoelaces for every 50 Miles they run in a year.
