One of VCC's top priorities in this pandemic is to assist local veteran/military serving programs find needed volunteers.
The COVID-19 pandemic is arguably the greatest public health disaster of the past hundred years. In addition to the tremendous loss of life and morbidity caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus itself, the mental health effects of the pandemic are only beginning to be understood. This program focuses on key aspects of the pandemic on older adults' mental health, including social isolation, loneliness, depression, and suicidal behaviors. It also introduces the audience to the concept of prolonged grief and how societal aspects of the response to the pandemic have made prolonged grief likelier for older adults after the loss of a loved one. Healing milestones and factors that derail healing will be presented, along with strategies for preventing the detrimental effects of social isolation and loneliness.

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Levin (D-CA) voted for bipartisan government funding legislation that includes nearly $900 billion in COVID-19 relief. The legislation includes $600 stimulus checks, a $300 per week increase in unemployment, $325 billion for small businesses, $32 billion for vaccine procurement and distribution, $82 billion for schools, and much more.

A new program offers business owners in the unincorporated area up to $8,000 to help improve the front exteriors of their buildings; applications will be accepted Oct. 1–15, 2020.
The San Diego County Board of Supervisors has established the Business Revitalization and Assistance Grant Program, a grant initiative administered by Planning & Development Services that provides funding to small-business and commercial property owners in the unincorporated area of San Diego County to improve the front exterior of their buildings. For permanent upgrades such as painting, landscaping, lighting and the addition of outdoor dining or workspace, qualifying applicants can be awarded up to $8,000 (registered historic properties are eligible for a grant of up to $12,000). The City of Oceanside has worked diligently on the guidelines for temporary parklets, or use of the street and/or street parking spaces for outdoor dining areas. The temporary parklet guidelines and application are now available on the City's website. The current Outdoor Expansion Guidelines have been updated to include details regarding parklet guidelines, regulations, submittal and insurance requirements and prohibitions. They have also updated the Outdoor Expansion Application to include a check box for a parklet proposal and additional indemnity/protection for the City. Each proposed parklet will be reviewed and analyzed on a case-by-case basis by the planning division. More details.

Rep. Mike Levin to Lead Virtual Town Hall with Local Census Official and USCD Epidemiologist8/4/2020
San Juan Capistrano, CA – U.S. Representative Mike Levin (D-CA) will lead a virtual town hall Wednesday with Benita Cooper, a Partnership Specialist with a local Census Bureau office, and Dr. Kimberly Brouwer, a professor and infectious disease epidemiologist with the University of California, San Diego. They will discuss the importance of the 2020 Census, the latest updates on the COVID-19 pandemic, and Rep. Levin’s work to provide relief for families and frontline workers.
The San Diego Small Business Development Center will be hosting a workshop on Wednesday August 5, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. for all minority owned businesses. This event is aimed at informing all minority business owners and entrepreneurs on some of the COVID-19 pandemic business relief resources available at the federal, state, and local level. SBDC will also share how they are able to help small businesses acquire capital and a variety of other services they offer.
