Coast Highway. Statistics show that more than 80% of people say they want to write a book, but only 1% ever do.
The Friends of the Oceanside Public Library will hold a Gifts Galore! Books and More! Sale on Saturday, December 11 in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms at 330 N. Coast Highway. The sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Friends Members, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the general public. Gifts Galore! offerings will include gift items, gently used books, artworks, puzzles and more, at great prices.
Oceanside Public Library is partnering with North County San Diego NAACP to sponsor a writing contest inspired by the book The Fire This Time: A New Generation Speaks About Race, edited by Jesmyn Ward. The book is a collection of essays written in response to James Baldwin’s The Fire Next Time and features work by contemporary writers as they reflect on the past, present and future of race in America.
The Oceanside Public Library, in partnership with the North County African American Women’s Association, invites you to join us for a special Art in Conversation online event celebrating “History of Black Music and Dance: Past, Present, and Future” on Saturday, February 27, at 11:00 a.m. Performance pieces by locally-based artists Alyssa Junious and BJ Robinson will highlight black artists who have influenced their work. The artists will also premier a new collaborative work inspired by the writings of Langston Hughes. The event will be interactive and is open to adults and teens.
The Friends of the Oceanside Public Library will begin holding drive-through book sales starting on August 25. The sales will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., behind the Civic Center Library at 602 Civic Center Drive.

Oceanside Public Library will offer a free STEAM Camp for students in fourth to sixth grades, Monday through Friday, April 6-10, 2020, 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the Civic Center Library Community Room, 330 North Coast Highway. The STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) Camp is intended to help students maintain or improve their academic achievement in a fun and engaging way. The theme for this year’s spring STEAM Camp is space, and will include hands-on art and engineering activities, science experiments, 3D printing, virtual reality, and special guests. Following the Camp, a free afternoon meal for all children is served in the Civic Center Library, 3:00-3:30 p.m. each day. Registration for the Camp is limited and participants must sign up at the Civic Center Library Children’s Desk in advance.

The Oceanside Public Library will be hosting two Q.P.R. Suicide Prevention & Intervention trainings. QPR: Question, Persuade, Refer is designed to give anyone the basic skills necessary to recognize the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide. Two trainings will be offered at the Oceanside Public Library. The first training will be held on February 19 at 5:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Library, 330 N. Coast Highway, and the second training will be held on April 9 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mission Branch Library, 3861 Mission Avenue.
The Oceanside Public Library invites the community for a screening of the film Stand and Deliver on Saturday, September 21 at 2:00 p.m. in the Civic Center Library Foundation Room at 330 N. Coast Highway. The film is based on the true life of high school math teacher Jaime Escalante who, against all odds, successfully taught his students calculus and helped them achieve their goal of passing the AP Calculus exam.

The Oceanside Public Library invites children of all ages and their families to the Franklin Haynes Marionettes bilingual show, Las Marionetas en Desfile, on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Library, located at 330 North Coast Highway. Las Marionetas en Desfile (Marionettes on Parade), is a marionette show that introduces children to some of the traditions of Latin America as well as commonly used Spanish words.

The Oceanside Public Library invites the public to Write On, Oceanside!
