Oceanside Public Library is proud to announce Book to Action: Homelessness and the Housing Crisis in North County, a multi-event program that includes a community-wide read of Evicted: Profit and Poverty in the American City by Matthew Desmond. This grant-funded series aims to increase awareness of a national crisis and spark conversation resulting in locally relevant programming. Oceanside Public Library invites families to a free, engaging and educational presentation featuring “Feathered Friends” with The Raptor Institute on Saturday, January 26 at 11:00 a.m., at the Civic Center Library, 330 North Coast Highway. Children and their caregivers will get to meet live raptors, or birds of prey, and learn about their conservation, biology, and natural history. Families will learn about where these raptors live, what they eat, and how important they are in the environment we live in.
The Oceanside Public Library invites the public to a special performance entitled “Jazz and the African American Vocal Artist” on Saturday, February 9, at 3:30 p.m., in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms at 330 North Coast Highway in downtown Oceanside. The performance by Michael Paul Smith and friends will include a vocal jazz concert with narrative. The concert will highlight pillars of the vocal jazz world and their significance in the African American experience and socially unifying efforts.
The Library will be offering an eight-week Citizenship Class completely in Spanish, in order for eligible students to prepare for the U.S. naturalization test. Classes will be held at the Civic Center Library in the second-floor Foundation Room on Fridays from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m., beginning on January 11.

Free tax preparation assistance will be available to lower-middle income Oceanside residents on Saturday, February 23, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Oceanside Public Library, located at 330 North Coast Highway in downtown Oceanside.
The Oceanside Public Library is proud to offer free Basic Computer Classes at both the Civic Center and Mission Branch locations. At the Civic Center Library, located at 330 N. The public is invited to Memory Loss 101, presented by Dementia Care Consultant Jean Alton from Alzheimer's San Diego, on Wednesday, January 9, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., at the Civic Center Library Community Rooms located at 330 North Coast Highway. Alton will discuss common signs and symptoms of dementia, other possible causes of memory loss, and how to maintain a healthy brain as one ages, and will provide an overview of the local resources that are available for screening, diagnosis, and support.

CIVIL RIGHTS PANEL AT OCEANSIDE LIBRARY TO HONOR ‘ONE BOOK, ONE SAN DIEGO’
This year, “One Book, One San Diego” made an unprecedented choice with the award-winning March: Book One, a graphic memoir about the Civil Rights Movement by U.S. Rep. John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell. In keeping with this historic selection, an Oceanside Public Library panel discussion will highlight the significant themes of the book. The free, public event will be held in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms, 330 N. Coast Highway, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 10.
