Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside’s R.O.A.D.’s Program Showcases Beauty and the Beast Production with Support from Legacy Endowment Community Foundation
Oceanside, CA (DECEMBER, 2018) – Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) received $5,000 from Legacy Endowment Community Foundation to purchase supplies and equipment for BGCO’s Real Options for Adults with Disabilities (R.O.A.D.’s) Program.
Through its enriching and engaging programs, R.O.A.D.’s provides opportunities for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Since its launching in 2012, R.O.A.D.’s has impacted more than 60 members with the help of a strong partnership with the San Diego Regional Center and grant support from Legacy Endowment Community Foundation.
This December, R.O.A.D.’s performed a production of Beauty and the Beast. Each member was responsible for memorizing lines, showing up on time for rehearsals, and performing in front of an audience of more than 100 people. Not only does the R.O.A.D.’s program provide opportunities adults with disabilities may not otherwise have, it also teaches self-advocacy through educational, social, and life skill activities. Funding from Legacy Endowment allows R.O.A.D.’s members to go on a variety of field trips like volunteering at the local Senior Center, budgeting at the grocery store, or adventuring out for strawberry picking during the summer.
“We are so thankful for community partners like Legacy Endowment Community Foundation for supporting enriching activities for our members,” said Jodi Diamond, CEO. “This funding ensures that we are able to provide high impact programming in an environment where they have support to grow and learn.”
