CLARIFYING LIST FROM GOVERNOR
On March 19, 2020, Governor Newsom issued an Executive Order directing all to stay home, except as needed to maintain continuity of operations of essential critical sectors and to protect health and well-being of all Californians. The Governor’s Office released a list of job sectors with clarifying details. Essential businesses should also practice social distancing by keeping employees and customers at least six feet apart. REMINDER: NO GATHERINGS
While these regulations are new and upsetting, it’s important to remind you NOT to gather in groups. There were reports of Oceanside parties and other gatherings. Oceanside Police cannot monitor every public space at all times; we need your help. Model the right thing to do, help your fellow community members stay safe. Each one of us has a vital role in this.

The Public Health Officer noted that it is acceptable to take a walk, get some exercise, and enjoy some fresh air with your family. Parks and Beaches are open for now. It’s not a good idea to visit a playground due to surfaces touched by many. Playing in an open field or grassy area of a park is fine. If you do go out, please keep a 6’ distance between yourself and another (other than your household members). Luckily, we have technology to stay connected to our loved ones and friends.

STATE OF CALIFORNIA ISSUES EMERGENCY FUNDING
The state is making historic investments to strengthen its health care delivery system, including leasing private hospitals to expand capacity and purchasing new ventilators and IV pumps. Last week, California began receiving shipments from a prior request from the Strategic National Stockpile. This includes included Personal Protective Equipment like N95 masks, face shields, gowns and gloves. More.

Latest COVID-19 numbers in San Diego County The county released an update of confirmed cases by city. They note that the vast majority of people with symptoms don’t need to be tested as long as they are not in a high-risk category. Since there are many more cases in our community than have been tested, please follow the social distancing recommendations and isolate from your family members if you are sick.

MINIMIZE YOUR RISK
People can help limit the spread of infection, by taking these steps:
  • Wash your hands often to help protect you from germs.
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, if soap and water are not available. It should contain at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • If you are sick, stay home and keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, then wash your hands.
  • Practice other good health habits. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious food.

DON’T FLUSH WIPES
While disinfecting your home and work space, or if using wipes in the bathroom, please dispose of any wipes in the trash. Wipes flushed in toilets clog pipes and may damage your plumbing and cause expensive repairs.

HELP FOR EMPLOYEES AND BUSINESSES
The State of California EDD provides a variety of support services to individuals and employers affected by COVID-19 in California. If you have reduced or no work hours, if you’re sick or quarantined, or if you’re caring for someone who is, visit our coronavirus resources page. If you’re a business owner or self-employed, resources on tax assistance and guidance may be found here: https://edd.ca.gov/about_edd/coronavirus-2019.htm and here: https://workforce.org/covid-19-bus/.

SUPPORT OCEANSIDE BUSINESSES

Many Oceanside restaurants are open for delivery or pick up options. Please keep them in mind and support them whenever feasible. List of options.

FOOD ASSISTANCE RESOURCES

Oceanside residents ages 60+ can arrange for meal delivery through "Serving Seniors" by calling (760) 435-5285. For all in need of food resources, please see this list of options.

WAYS TO HELP IN THE OCEANSIDE COMMUNITY

Every one of us can safely help our community during these difficult times.
  • First and foremost, check in on your elderly neighbors through a call, a text, or through the door.
  • Contact our local homeless service providers to see if they need donations or volunteers. Oceanside’s Neighborhood Services Department is in touch with the County to work on ways to shelter people during this crisis and beyond. The City continues to provide services to our homeless community through the Homeless Outreach Team and the City Housing Authority; call 760-435-4500 or 211 to access services. Homeless persons who are ill should call 211 to connect with services.
  • Give blood. Right now, eligible and healthy donors are strongly urged to make an appointment to provide lifesaving blood products to patients, even if you are practicing social distancing because of COVID-19. You cannot catch the coronavirus by donating blood. This is a respiratory infection, and there is no evidence that it is transmissible by blood transfusion. Make an appointment today: American Red Cross or San Diego Blood Bank
  • Here are some other ways you can make a difference.

GET TEXT UPDATES

San Diego County residents can receive information about the novel coronavirus via text. To sign up, text COSD COVID19 to the number 468-311. Leave a space between COSD and COVID19.

IF YOU HAVE INDIVIDUAL QUESTIONS
If you have individual questions, please talk to your health care provider. For community resources, please call 211 or visit 211sandiego.org or the County’s Coronavirus Disease webpage.
