Five morning field trips to explore our connection to Nature are being offered Monday, June 17th through Friday, June 22nd by a team of instructors from Chamber member Body & Brain Wellness and the non-profit Earth Citizens Organization, San Diego County chapter. In a format with wide appeal from school-age children to parents and grandparents, each morning field trip will begin at Buddy Todd Park with check-in and a short “Brain Power” stretch-and-wake-up outdoor class. From there, the participants will receive drive directions and caravan by car. Each local site visit is designed to engage children in Nature-related activities, such as the “Climate for Kids” program at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center (admission fee included). The city of Oceanside will present its Green Oceanside Recycling for Kids on one of the mornings. On other days, participants will learn how healthy food is grown during a chef’s tour at an organic farm, and about how the natural life cycle is used to create sustainable farming with aquaponics. A visit to the Audubon Center is also planned, to get more acquainted with local wildlife in the Buena Vista conservation area. Each morning’s program will conclude at 11:30am. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult during the field trips. Each days’ activities are open to the public, and reservations are recommended.
This week of June field trips is part of the national Earth Citizens “I CARE 2020” campaign to raise awareness about the connection between our individual health, our families’ health, the health of our communities and the health of our planet’s environment. A donation of $10 per adult is recommended for each day’s program, payable upon check-in at Buddy Todd Park (cash only). Children may attend free. Donations from the week of morning field trips will benefit the Earth Citizens Organization’s scholarship fund for teens and young adults studying community leadership in Earth ethics. For more about these programs, see http://www.earthcitizens.org. Body & Brain Wellness provides contracted workforce wellness instruction at major corporations, locally and nationally.
