If you see goats along SR 76, they’re doing important work. These furry helpers are starting to lay the groundwork for OceanKAMP, the wave lagoon resort coming to Oceanside as soon as 2026.
In October 2022, Oceanside City Council approved OceanKAMP, the mixed-use development featuring a resort hotel, 700 homes, and 134,000 square feet of commercial and retail space around the wave lagoon. Grading has already begun on the former drive-in site, with final completion anticipated 2026-7. With much anticipation, the project team will soon commence pre-leasing efforts for the commercial and retail space. O’side Partnership is seeking a variety of local restaurant, retail, brewery, active lifestyle and action sports companies to locate in OceanKAMP’s exciting office, restaurant and retail spaces.
As the project team gears up for the next phase of development, Jon Corn, CEO of O’Side Partnership, the project’s developer, chose an eco-friendly way to maintain the project site. He tapped Fire Grazers Inc., a family-owned brush management service for a few helping hoofs. “Goats provide a far more environmentally friendly means for brush management. Traditional brush management clearance creates noise and air pollution and spreads seeds which make future growth that much more troublesome. Goats on the other hand eat the seeds, there’s no petrochemical exhaust, and they are quiet and fun to watch,” Corn said. “We wanted to find a way to manage the site that was both sustainable and benefitting small businesses in the region. Throughout every phase of project development, we want to keep things as environmentally friendly and local as possible.”
You can spot the goats off of Foussat Road and SR 76 for the next 2 to 3 weeks.
