Three MiraCosta College Board of Trustees, Jacqueline “Jackie” Simon, Frank Merchat, and George McNeil re-elected November 2020, will be sworn in during the regularly scheduled board meeting on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at 4 p.m. Board secretary, MiraCosta College Superintendent/President Dr. Sunny Cooke will administer the oath. "I'm honored to serve with a team of dynamic leaders dedicated and passionate about our community and supporting students. As a team, the Board is eager to continue forward on the path serving MiraCosta College,” explains President of the MiraCosta College Board of Trustees Rick Cassar.
Jacqueline “Jackie” Simon was first elected to the Board of Trustees of MiraCosta College in November 2004. A resident of Carlsbad, she represents MiraCosta College Trustee Area 3 including Carlsbad and Encinitas. As an educator with over 17-years of teaching experience at the community-college level, she brings a unique perspective to the Board. She holds a master of arts degree in speech from California State University East Bay (formerly called California State University at Hayward) and a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from San Jose State University. She currently teaches speech and communication at community colleges within the San Diego and Riverside county districts. Frank Merchat ran unopposed and represents MiraCosta College Trustee Area 4- the eastern portion of Carlsbad, since April 2015. Prior to his appointment, Frank served for five years on the MiraCosta College Foundation Board of Directors. Frank was raised in Los Angeles and went on to attend San Diego State University. He graduated number one in finance in 1977 and started his corporate career in the computer industry. George McNiel joined the MiraCosta College Board of Trustees in December 2008, representing Area 5, which is southern Oceanside. George was born in Scotland and emigrated with his parents to the United States when he was 16. After becoming a United States citizen, George worked for thirty years as a teacher, counselor, and administrator before retirement.
