Come join MiraCosta College music faculty Matt Falker (vocals/piano), Jared Mattson (guitar), Jonathan Mattson (drums), and friends for an entertaining, collaborative night of music. Matt will sing and play a set of re-envisioned jazz standards in preparation for a presentation at the International Jazz Voice Conference in Helsinki, Finland. The Mattson 2 psych-jazz duo will present songs from their collection of original music, including their eighth and most recent album release, Paradise. Thursday, September 26, 7:30 p.m., at the Oceanside Campus, Music Bldg. 2200, Studio A. David Bergstedt Piano Recital David Bergstedt, a 2010 graduate of MiraCosta College’s Music Program, returns to present a recital of piano masterworks. At the center of the program is Schubert’s monumental final Piano Sonata in B-flat, D. 960, joined by Bach’s Italian Concerto and Debussy’s neoclassical suite Pour le Piano. After his time at MiraCosta, David has continued on to graduate studies in piano performance, first at Cal State University, Fullerton and now at Arizona State University, where he will present this program in his first doctoral recital. Sunday, September 29, at 3 p.m. Music Majors Perform The public is invited to performances by MiraCosta College music majors that occur most Fridays at noon during the semester. MiraCosta Symphony Orchestra Please join us for the MiraCosta College Symphony Orchestra’s first concert of the 2019–20 season. We will be spotlighting the orchestra in an evening of firsts, featuring Gustav Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 1 “The Titan,” in addition to other delights from the repertoire. Directed by Branden Muresan. Saturday, October 12, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 13, at 3 p.m. Frequency Sneak Peek Get your first look at this year’s Frequency Vocal Jazz Program! This preview concert will prepare the choir to travel to San Luis Obispo to perform at the Cuesta College Vocal Jazz Festival in November, and celebrate the release of their second album. Repertoire will be presented by the full choir and by selected soloists. Directed by Matt Falker. Thursday, October 24, at 7:30 p.m. MOJO & the Jazz Collective The MiraCosta College five-time DownBeat award-winning jazz bands share the stage for this one-night event. MOJO, DownBeat’s 2017 Community College National Winner, and the Jazz Collective will perform music by renowned past and present composers and arrangers, including student and faculty works.
