MiraCosta College Community Education is offering the following hobbies and skills, not-for-credit, courses this fall: The Sketch—Speed Drawing
All experience levels are welcome. Sketching is just another form of drawing, except that it is fast, loose and spontaneous. Your sketchbook is a visual diary, recording your travels, adventures and life’s special moments. You will learn fast professional techniques covering line, shape, shadows, perspective, figures, landscapes, and more. Fee: $135. Early Bird Special $125 (Register BEFORE 8/31 for this rate.) Supplies: A $3 materials fee will be collected in class. A supplies list will be included with your student confirmation upon registration. Location: San Elijo Campus, Room 206. Time: 6 Saturdays, 9/7–10/12, 9 AM–12 PM. Develop the Habit of Watercolor Practice Painting All experience levels welcome. Painting on the pages of a sketchbook is a low-stress way to improve your painting skills and develop the habit of painting on a regular basis. In this class, you'll practice painting a variety of subjects in your sketchbook. You will learn about fixing mistakes, mixing color, drawing, composition, creative thinking, adding dimension with values, and more. Fee: $129. Early Bird Special $119 (Register BEFORE 8/31 for this rate.) Supplies: A $3 materials fee will be collected in class for handouts. A supplies list will be sent prior to the start of class. Location: San Elijo Campus, Room 206. Time: 5 Saturdays, 9/7–10/5, 1 PM–4 PM. Beginning Guitar No experience necessary. If you know a minimal amount about the guitar, this is the class for you. This class covers guitar techniques, chords, strumming, and some notation/theory. By the end of this class, you will have an understanding of chord structure and beginning strumming techniques. Most of the songs learned will be by The Beatles. No book required. Instructor will provide handouts. Fee: $95. Early Bird Special $85 (Register BEFORE 8/31 for this rate.) Supplies: Bring guitar, notebook, and pen or pencil to class. Location: San Elijo Campus, Room 201. Time: 8 Mondays, 9/9–10/28, 6:30–7:30 PM. Clothing Alterations All experience levels are welcome. Learn the fundamentals of fitting, styling, re-styling, and repairs. Please bring one or more garments to class that will be fitted by the instructor. After this class, you will be able to make better choices when purchasing garments based on personal style, fit, and body type. Fee: $120. Early Bird Special $110 (Register BEFORE 8/31 for this rate.) Supplies: Sewing machines are not required for this class nor are they available for use. Bring a sack lunch. A supplies list will be included with your student confirmation. Location: Oceanside Campus, Room 4529. Time: 4 Saturdays, 9/7–9/28, 10 AM–3 PM. Furniture Re-Imagined All experience levels are welcome. Inspired by a popular DIY show, Furniture Re-Imagined is a class that explores different finishes, upholstery fabrics, and the repurposing of traditional furniture. Bring your chairs, small dressers, side tables, and headboards. Topics include, how to prep wood, painting furniture, antiquing and distressing, re-styling, and fabrics. Note: Please bring binder and paper for notes. Resources for your supplies will be given (no sofas or large items please). Fee: $220. Early Bird Special $210 (Register BEFORE 8/31 for this rate.) Supplies: A $20 materials fee will be collected in class. Students who are working on refinishing/painting wood furniture are not subject to a materials fee.
