MiraCosta College Promise Offers First-Time, Full-Time Students Tuition-Free College for Two Years4/9/2019
Starting fall 2019, MiraCosta College is subsidizing tuition for ALL first-time, full-time college students to attend MiraCosta College for two-years.* Expanding opportunities to complete a degree and/or certificate is part of the MiraCosta Promise program and commitment to the region. All first-time students to attend college and enroll in at least 12 units per semester at MiraCosta College are eligible to receive their tuition fees waived. In addition to removing the financial barrier of attendance, MiraCosta College also provides a wide range of free student success support services, such as academic counseling and educational planning.
“The MiraCosta Promise ensures that college is accessible to all those in our community seeking a college education. This program removes a significant hurdle for college-bound students; tuition and mandatory fees,” explains Dr. Sunita “Sunny” Cooke, Superintendent/President of MiraCosta College. “The Promise model expands our ability to reach, support, and inspire students to achieve their educational endeavors.” MiraCosta College’s recent expansion of the Promise coincides with state and federal officials who have declared April 2019 “Community College Month.” California Assembly Continuing Resolution (ACR) 31 notes California’s 115 community colleges are an essential resource of the State of California, its people, and its economy. “The reduction in fees goes back to the original concept of community college being free in California, transforming the lives of our students by opening doors to opportunity through education and job training,” explains Dr. David Broad, President of the Board of Trustees at MiraCosta College. “We are here to support everyone looking for a better future, and we are doing that by leveraging federal, state, private, and institutional resources.” Removing the cost of tuition is a critical component in furthering the success of our region, however, students often times find themselves in need of additional financial support for food, books, a computer, etc. This is why the MiraCosta College Foundation is dedicated to raising money to promote the benefits of the college and secure resources that transform lives in our community. If you are interested in making a donation, please go to the MiraCosta College Foundation website, call 760-795-6775, or email Cynthia Rice. By 2020, nearly two of every three jobs in the United States will require some kind of credential or degree, and MiraCosta College is dedicated to ensuring students in our region are prepared to meet the need. “Whether you are looking to transfer to a four-year college or university or looking for the kind of training that will help you succeed in a new career, MiraCosta College is there for you,” Cooke said.
