The MiraCosta College Theatre Department presents The Importance of Being Earnest written by Oscar Wilde. The play opens on Thursday, November 14, at the MiraCosta College Theatre (Bldg. 2200), located at 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. Tracy Williams will direct. Oscar Wilde seems to have written the press release for his own play; “The first act is ingenious; the second, beautiful; the third, abominably clever.” The Importance of Being Earnest has proven to be Oscar Wilde’s most popular, enduring, and perfect comedy. Unlikely situations, sparkling wordplay, fascinating characters, and the most famous handbag in the history of theatre, make this a play you won’t want to miss.
"We are having so much fun working on this Oscar Wilde play! He was a Victorian who was leading a double life at the time he wrote this play. He is clever in his social commentary, while still giving us one of the greatest comedies ever written. We can’t wait for our audiences to come and laugh at the play with us. Its subtitle is “A Trivial Comedy for Serious People.” We hope all the serious people will leave laughing," enthuses director Williams. Performance dates are scheduled for November 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, and 23, at 7:30 p.m. and November 16, 17, 23, and 24, at 2 p.m. General admission is $16; seniors/staff, $13; students, $11. A preview performance is scheduled for November 14 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the preview performance are $11 for all seats. Children under the age of 5 are not admitted to the theatre. Seating is reserved. Tickets are available online at or by calling the MiraCosta College Box Office at 760.795.6815.
