MiraCosta Community College District's (MCCCD) Board of Directors has approved the award of a contract to renovate the athletic field at the district's Oceanside Campus. The $7,689,355 contract was awarded to Los Angeles Engineering, Inc. of Covina, CA. The renovation project will begin within a month and is scheduled to be completed next summer. The project consists of the removal of the current track to allow for the construction of an increased field space that meets international competition size requirements, along with a new 2,100 square foot athletics field support building that will replace the existing storage building. The project will also include new restrooms, coaches’ offices, and equipment storage for the new walking and jogging track, and athletic fields.
"We will also be adding a two-lane walking and jogging track around the perimeter of the athletic fields," said Tom Macias, Facilities Director for the district. He added, "This will help to create a small athletics field complex that better utilizes the bowl area in that part of the campus." The project architect is LPA, Inc. Other project partners include Kitchell, providing overall management of the capital improvement program, as well as construction management services; Dudek, providing environmental engineering; SMS Geotechnical Solutions, providing geotechnical engineering; Alliance Engineering, providing project inspection, and MTGL, providing special inspection and material testing. The project is funded through MiraCosta’s capital improvement program, using funds from Measure MM, the $455 general obligation bond approved by voters in 2016. Contractors interested in learning more about upcoming capital improvement projects are encouraged to visit the construction opportunities and contractor resources pages on the MiraCosta College website. The groundbreaking ceremony for this project will happen at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 18. Comments are closed.
