Last month, with the support of over 13 community partners, Fieldstone Leadership Network San Diego launched the Nonprofit Board Exchange in hopes of expanding and equalizing opportunities for individuals to serve as nonprofit board members. The site also includes information on local educational offerings focused on board leadership. I am reaching out to ask for your help in sharing this new community resource with your friends and colleagues.
According to research conducted by The Nonprofit Institute at USD, currently, only 33% of San Diego nonprofit boards have BIPOC members even though 55% of our local population identifies as black, indigenous, or as a person of color. This lack of representation hinders the ability of nonprofit organizations to effectively serve their communities and limits access to a valuable career advancement and networking opportunity for BIPOC professionals. Research has shown that nonprofit board service can help enhance many of the skills that are vital to professional success such as communication, strategic planning, critical thinking, conflict resolution, problem solving and more. Our community partners join us in recognizing the importance of this effort. As we all have deep roots in the nonprofit community, we’ve been able to reach hundreds of nonprofit organizations in the first month alone and their response has been enthusiastic, but we cannot achieve our goals without making more individuals and business leaders aware of this resource. We have included an image to share on social media or in an e-mail blast to help get the word out. We invite you to visit our website: npboardexchange.org to browse current board openings, find board training opportunities, and explore resources relating to board service. If you want more information, please don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected] or (858) 252-3876. Comments are closed.
