On March 11, MiraCosta College will host TECH Talk, a free event presented by the MiraCosta College Computer Studies and Information Technology (CSIT) Department. Students, faculty, community members, and industry leaders are invited to learn about MiraCosta College’s Cybersecurity and IT degrees and certificates, Point Loma Nazarene University’s CIT bachelor’s degree, and network with industry professionals and corporate recruiters representing, cybersecurity, programming, and digital media. “This will be the best TECH Talk yet,” said MiraCosta College CSIT Faculty and organizer Rick Cassoni of this 4th annual event. “We have panelists that are cybersecurity workers and chief information security officers from the Department of Defense and biotech including Booz Allen Hamilton, Illumina, Naval Info Warfare Command, and ViaSat,” explained Cassoni. “The San Diego manager for Robert Half recruiting will be on the panel, as well as a recent SDSU graduate and social media expert.”
After a panel discussion, participants can mix and mingle with the twelve panelists, answering questions and discussing internships while enjoying free pizza sponsored by Point Loma Nazarene University. Attendees will be entered into an opportunity drawing to win a Raspberry PI, two mini drones, and more. Due to the vast interest in computer studies and demand from the industry, the MiraCosta College CSIT Department has developed an associate’s degree and certificate program in cybersecurity. Students will be exposed to a range of cutting-edge topics and skills that have been developed in partnership with industry experts. Upon completion, this degree will prepare students for various CompTIA certifications, as well as to intern and work in this exciting, emerging field. The event will be held on the Oceanside Campus, 1 Barnard Drive, in the Administration Building, room 1068, from 5–7 p.m. Register online.
