Dear Tri-City Community, Tri-City Hospital Foundation supports Tri-City Medical Center year-round by providing the most advanced technology to elevate patient care. Recently, our community's generous support allowed us to provide three new devices — portable ultrasounds, high-flow oxygen delivery systems, and professional-grade air purification systems — to assist patients in the Emergency Department. The new portable ultrasound devices aid Tri-City's staff in diagnosing abdominal emergencies, pregnancy-related problems, and cardiopulmonary emergencies, among others. The devices also improve diagnostic accuracy and efficiency by reducing the use of other more time-consuming tests. Uniquely useful during COVID-19, the portable ultrasounds elevate Tri-City's pandemic response by allowing observation of the disease's effects on the lungs and lowering the need to move a patient to other areas of the hospital. Bedside ultrasounds also improve outcomes in the case of emergencies such as ruptured ectopic pregnancy, ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm, pericardial effusion, and internal injuries in trauma patients. They provide real-time visualization of vital structures during invasive procedures. “The ability to perform these ultrasound scans at patient’s bedsides allows us to save precious time and keep patients as comfortable as possible,” said Dr. Cary Mells, emergency medicine specialist at Tri-City Medical Center. “The bedside ultrasounds help us ensure that physicians are as efficient as possible with their time while also providing the high-level patient experience our community deserves.” Thanks to Tri-City Hospital Foundation, the Emergency Department can now use the ultrasound devices multiple times every day while keeping patients in controlled, isolated environments when necessary. This process specifically benefits the COVID-19 care team by reducing patient and staff exposure. These devices further enhance Tri-City’s goal of providing the community with the best possible, state-of-the-art care. The purchase of the new Airvo High-Flow Oxygen Devices for Tri-City Medical Center permits delivery of much higher oxygen concentrations to patients in respiratory distress, like COVID-19 patients. Systems like Airvo provide an alternative to ventilators, which are currently in short supply. The Airvo devices provide further utility in the treatment of acute flares of chronic respiratory illnesses related to diseases such as congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema, and pneumonia. XPOWER X-2480A is a professional-grade, 3-Stage HEPA filter air purification system, capable of removing bacteria, viruses, allergens, mold, and particles as small as 0.3 microns. In comparison, the human eye can only see debris and dust that are 25 microns in size! These portable air purification systems provide an alternative to hospital isolation rooms, allowing Tri-City Medical Center’s healthcare heroes to bring isolation to a patient. Portable isolation reduces high-risk patients' exposure to COVID-19. It also contributes to the management of airborne illnesses such as tuberculosis, measles, chicken pox, and other respiratory infections. In Other News We'd like to congratulate our latest Guardian Angel recipient, Audria Muscara! Audria, an R.N. in the ICU, has just received the Guardian Angel pin from her grandmother in honor of her dedication and extraordinary level of care. Tri-City Hospital Foundation’s Guardian Angel Program is a donation made to honor any Tri-City Medical Center staff member who has gone above and beyond while taking care of you or loved ones. Any amount donated to the program gifts the honoree a beautiful Guardian Angel pin to wear with pride and to know their kindness and care is appreciated and admired! Our Wigs For Hope fundraiser has made amazing progress in less than a month; we're currently 64% towards our goal! Through the Wigs for Hope program, Tri-City Medical Center provides free, custom wigs to women undergoing chemotherapy. For those fighting cancer, wigs are more than just hair; they provide a sense of normalcy and privacy during cancer treatment by preventing people from asking questions about their diagnosis. Help us spread the word by forwarding this email and challenging friends to match your donation! Click here to donate and share why you're supporting Wigs For Hope. If you’re able, please help us support our doctors, nurses and staff on the front line by donating today. All donations are tax-deductible.
