​Veteran’s Housing Assistance Program Alliance Partners process

To support Senior Housing Relief for Elders Veterans Housing Aid program the following process is to be followed. This process is being documented to ensure that we are helping our target veteran population that needs the benefit of supplemental income that Aid & Attendance will provide long-term but is waiting for benefits to be processed and provided. 

The process for this program may be initiated in several ways but at the core the veteran should be working with SHRE nonprofit allies to assist with the Aid & Attendance application and/or Senior Housing referrals. The veteran will receive two monthly payments of up to 90% of their expected Aid & Attendance benefits as determined by the organization(s) assisting the veteran with their application.

The basic requirements for being eligible for this program are:

• The veteran must be applying for Aid & Attendance benefits with the assistance of a recognized alliance partner of SHORE.
  
• The veteran must be moving into or already living in, a senior housing community.
  
  • As part of the initial pilot version of this program, the community must be in San Diego County.
    

​In addition, the veteran must meet additional criteria, as verified by our designated alliance organizations, as part of the process to determine full eligibility:

Aid & Attendance:

• The veteran must have $20,000 or less in total assets and must not own a home.
  
• The Aid & Attendance assistance organization determines that the veteran has a near 100% chance of obtaining the benefits.
  

Senior Housing Community:

• SHORE will need verification from an official representative that the veteran has signed a housing agreement with the community. After alliance organizations have confirmed the eligibility requirements, they will provide Senior Housing Relief for Elders with the contact information of the veteran and their senior housing community for verification of move-in or existing residence.
  

After verification, SHORE will deliver the first check to the veteran. SHORE will deliver the second check the following month after confirming that the veteran still resides at their senior housing community.
