The Oceanside City Council cut the ribbon today on a new public parking garage just steps from the beach in the downtown. The public parking garage is located at 371 North Cleveland Street near Civic Center Drive in the newly constructed SALT mixed-use development. The public parking garage has 340 spaces over six levels. The parking cost is $3 for two-hour parking in designated spaces or $5 for all day parking. The payment system is managed electronically via input of license plate number. The parking structure is closed daily from 2:00 to 4 am. This project is a public/private partnership through a development agreement with Pelican Communities.

Free Workshop Sponsored by the City of Oceanside will Teach Participants How to Turn Leftovers into a Tasty Redo, Reduce Holiday Waste and Incorporate Sustainability into the Season
The City of Oceanside is seeking nominees for the 2020 Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Award. This annual award honors residents of the City who have made a significant contribution of time and energy to improve community life, promote positive community development, and enhance the lives of individuals and neighborhoods in the City. The award especially recognizes volunteer work and activity done outside of a work setting and over a long period of time. The award is named in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in recognition of the contribution that he and others made to promote positive relationships between people, groups, and cultures.
The City of Oceanside was invited by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to apply for two separate Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) loans. Oceanside submitted letters of interest in early summer 2019 for the Pure Water Oceanside and Lower Recycled Water Distribution System Expansion Project as well as the Buccaneer Sewer Lift Station and Force Main Project. Oceanside’s letters of interest were among 51 others received by the EPA from both public and private entities in response to its 2019 WIFIA Notice of Funding Availability. After a robust review process, the WIFIA Selection Committee chose 38 prospective borrowers’ projects to submit applications for loans, including both projects submitted by the City of Oceanside.
The City of Oceanside, in partnership with the ADU Coalition of San Diego and AARP California, will conduct a public workshop on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). The workshop will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, in the City Council Chambers at 300 N. Coast Highway, Oceanside from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Doors open at 5:30 PM.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the City of Oceanside’s future aquatics center will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the site’s adjacent El Corazon Senior Center, located at 3302 Senior Center Drive in Oceanside. The event will mark the beginning of what will become the city’s largest aquatics facility in the heart of Oceanside: El Corazon Aquatics Center.
Two outstanding Oceanside residents were chosen as 2019 "Seniors of the Year." The honorees were announced by Deputy Mayor Jack Feller on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at the annual Senior Expo hosted by the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce at Civic Center Plaza. Ms. Anita Romaine and Ms. Linda Walshaw were selected the winners for their scope of community involvement and volunteerism.
The Oceanside Fire Department celebrated the 90th anniversary of the installment of its first paid Fire Chief, Walter Johnson. Walter Johnson was selected to be the first paid Fire Chief on October 10, 1929. Johnson held that position until 1959. A commemorative ceremony was held in front of Oceanside’s Fire Station 1 which opened in 1929, the same year Johnson became Fire Chief.

Oceanside’s 2019 "Senior of the Year" will be announced at 12:00 noon on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at the annual Senior Expo, hosted by the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce. The Senior Expo will be held at the Oceanside Civic Center Plaza from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The event will feature 80 health-related businesses, non-profits and senior organizations, as well as free health-related screenings, giveaways and consultations.
Oceanside “Senior of the Year” nomination forms are being accepted and are available at both El Corazon and Country Club Senior Centers in Oceanside, or online. Nominations are being requested for Oceanside seniors, age 62 or older, who have contributed to their community through volunteer work.

The Library will be offering a thirteen-week Citizenship Class, in order for eligible students to prepare for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) Naturalization Test. Classes will be held at the Civic Center Library in the second-floor Foundation Room on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m., beginning September 4. In this class, students will learn about U.S. history and government and prepare for the citizenship interview. Classes will be taught by volunteer teachers who have classroom experience and training specific to the topic.

We are scheduled to present the Coast Highway Corridor Study Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) to the City Council in the City Council Chambers at 6 p.m. on August 14th. Staff recommendation to the City Council will be for the adoption of Alternative 3, which includes Complete Streets features between Harbor Drive and Morse Street and Incentive District zoning from Seagaze Drive to Morse Street.

The City of Oceanside Water Utilities Department is hosting an upcoming public workshop to introduce the Loma Alta Wetlands Enhancement planning project. The project area is located between Coast Highway and Pacific Street in southern Oceanside, adjacent to Buccaneer Beach Park. The purpose of the project is to expand coastal wetland habitat and improve public access and outdoor recreation through trails and educational signage. The planning and design phase is being funded by a grant from the State Coastal Conservancy.
The City of Oceanside is pleased to announce the release of its 2018 Water Quality Report. This report shows that the City system continues to meet or exceed all state and federal drinking water standards. City staff collects water quality samples to test for over 90 different substances throughout the year to ensure that the City’s drinking water meets the highest standards for quality and safety. Samples from drinking water plants and in the City’s distribution system were analyzed and reported in the 2018 Water Quality Report. “Oceanside’s drinking water is closely monitored to ensure the highest quality of water is delivered to our customers,” said Water Utilities Director Cari Dale. “Our highest priority is delivering safe and reliable water.”
The City of Oceanside is pleased to announce that it will receive $1.5 Million in funding from the Bureau of Reclamation’s WaterSMART Water and Energy Efficiency Grant, subject to Federal appropriations. The funding will be used to construct Phase 1 of a new Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) network, including retrofitting 21,689 existing meters and integrating the AMI system with the existing customer interface platform. Once the project is complete, 49% of the City’s meters will be connected to the AMI network. The AMI system will provide real-time information to customers about leaks, breaks, and other unusual consumption patterns.
On June 22, the City of Oceanside opened the doors to its Green Oceanside Kitchen—a state-of-the-art food recovery and preservation facility at the El Corazon Senior Center, providing innovative solutions to food waste, hunger and environmental and culinary education in North San Diego County.
The most comprehensive facility of its kind, the City of Oceanside will open the doors to its Green Oceanside Kitchen for the first time to unveil its innovative, sustainable food offerings. The private grand opening event is on Saturday, June 22, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the El Corazon Senior Center/Green Oceanside Kitchen.
Join Oceanside Public Library for an unveiling of the exhibit “Portrait of a Woman Veteran” on Friday, May 3 at 6:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Library, at 330 North Coast Highway, during ArtWalk. For this project, female veterans were paired with local artists to meet and have a conversation about their military experience what it means to be a veteran. The artists then created portraits inspired by the conversation to honor the veteran. At the reception, the artists and the women veterans who inspired their work will present their collaboration to the public.
